Metro Parks - Kensington
I attended Kensington Metropark yesterday with my daughter Samantha and her 6th grade classmates on a field trip. I remember going there to swim and picnic when I was a teen. However I was amazed at all the different year round activities they have to offer.
Kensington Metropark is a 4,357-acre first-class recreational facility. Its wooded hilly terrain surrounds beautiful Kent Lake.
The park features:
- 18-hole regulation golf course
- Disc golf course
- Nature center
- Farm learning center
- Picnic areas
- Beaches
- Boat rentals and launching along with a boat excursion on the "Island Queen II," a 49-passenger pontoon boat
- A paved eight mile Hike/Bike trail
- Cross-country skiing-More than 12 miles of groomed trails
- Farm Learning Center-Walk down the farm lanes and get a feel of farm life
- Hayrides/sleighrides and Bonfire on the weekends
- Fishing-Summer catches include bass (large and smallmouth), walleye, northern pike, bluegills, perch and crappies. Winter catches include pike, bluegills and crappies.
- There are numerous handicap-accessible fishing piers on Kent Lake, located near the West Boat Launch
- Ice skating, Tobogganing and sledding- with separate beginning, intermediate and advanced sledding hills along with 2 toboggan runs
